Flomax Helps Remove Kidney Stone

Doctors have started prescribing Flomax to pass stone in kidney. Flomax is prescription drug to treat BPH i.e. Benign Prostate Hyperplasia. It is found that Flomax effectively helps pass kidney stone in both men and women.

Despite approved by FDA for BPH, Flomax has been great success as a treatment for removing kidney stone. Given its unlabeled use, around 8-10 small clinical trials have been conducted so far. All the studies found that Flomax, sometimes may accompanied with other blood pressure drug such as nifedipine, helps decrease contraction of muscle of a tube that connects two kidneys to bladder. In simple words, intake of extra fluid and flomax widens tube which provides way out for kidney stone. An estimation is that around 4mm stone has 60% chances to flow out within urine. Once a day administration of flomax for about one month can remove stone even 3-5 days faster.

Stone removal treatment with flomax may also include pain medicines. This is because of the fact that removal of stone from kidney is painful. Stone in kidney is deposition of calcium which is hard in nature. Needless to say large sized stone gives pain while passing through narrow urinary tract. Also, uneven shape of the stone adds more to pain.

Although Flomax is approved for men only, it works in women too. Recently a woman of age 38 was successfully treated with Flomax for kidney stone. The Women rushed to the hospital because of abdominal pain on left-side. 4mm stone in kidney found in diagnosis. Doctor suggested to woman go home and gave her prescription for Flomax.

Kidney stone blocks the flow of fluid in urinary tube. This can lead to fluid retention. Flomax, by widening urinary tube, increases smooth flow of fluid which takes stone along with it and finally takes it out of the body through urine.
